Parallax Counseling

Eli Sobhani Maurer, LPC

Navigating identity, trauma, relationships, or self-doubt in a world that doesn’t always make space for you can be exhausting. With thoughtful support, it’s possible to develop strength, perspective, and joy, even during the hardest moments.

If you are here reading this page, I know that you care deeply about your child. Seeking therapy for a teenager requires real emotional, financial, and time investment, and it often comes with uncertainty and worry. Choosing the right person to support your teen is not a small decision, and I respect the trust that decision represents. As a parent of teens myself, I understand how difficult it can be to place very delicate and vulnerable issues in the hands of someone you may not yet know well. I approach my work with great respect for the parent–teen relationship, believing that growth is strongest when teens feel supported and parents feel informed, respected, and valued. While I honor a teen’s need for privacy and autonomy within therapy, I treat the parent–child bond with care and intention, recognizing it as one of the most important relationships in a young person’s life. For teens, I know it can be hard to find an adult who truly takes your thoughts and feelings seriously — someone you can trust and who genuinely “gets” you. In therapy, you have a space where you can be yourself exactly as you are, or use that space to better understand who you are in a way that feels safe and nonjudgmental. Many of the teens I work with feel misunderstood, emotionally intense, or worn down by expectations that don’t quite fit who they are. My goal is to provide a place where you feel taken seriously, can show up honestly, and develop greater confidence and a stronger sense of self-direction.I also work with adults who feel drawn to a thoughtful, relational approach to therapy — particularly those who recognize patterns that began earlier in life, are navigating emotional overwhelm or identity questions, or are beginning therapy for the first time. Whether you are a parent seeking support for your teen, a teen looking for a space of your own, or an adult starting this work later on, I aim to offer a steady, respectful, and human place to begin.

About Eli

Hello, my name is Eli. I have spent nearly two decades working in education, supporting young people from elementary school through higher education. For the past eight years, I have worked as a Professional School Counselor at the high school level, focusing on students’ social-emotional development as well as academic and career guidance.I earned my Master’s degree in School Counseling from Emporia State University and completed the additional training required to become a fully licensed therapist in the state of Missouri. I also hold a post-graduate certificate in Play Therapy from MidAmerica Nazarene University. While play therapy is often associated with younger children, I incorporate play-based and experiential techniques into my work with clients of all ages, adapting them to meet each person where they are.Throughout my career, I have found that I work especially well with teens who have experienced both big and small traumas — the kinds of experiences that can quietly shape how someone sees themselves and the world. I often support teens who feel misunderstood, who have been labeled “weird,” “different,” “lazy,” or “defiant,” and who may be carrying shame that doesn’t belong to them.I also enjoy working with children who are sensitive, emotionally intense, or have what many people call “big feelings.” Together, we focus on building emotional awareness, learning regulation skills, and creating a sense of safety and understanding: both within themselves and in their relationships with others.
